Sometimes politicians, journalists and the liberal left exclaim; “It’s just a tax cut for the rich!” and it is just accepted to be fact. But what does that really mean? Just in case you are not completely clear on this issue, I hope the following will help. Please read it carefully. Let’s put tax cuts in terms everyone can understand. Suppose that every day, ten men go out for dinner and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this: 

a.. The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing. 
b.. The fifth would pay $1. 
c.. The sixth would pay $3. 
d.. The seventh would pay $7. 
e.. The eighth would pay $12. 
f..  The ninth would pay $18. 
g.. The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59. 

So, that’s what they decided to do. The ten men ate dinner in the restaurant every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. “Since you are all such good customers,” he said, “I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily meal by $20.” Dinner for the ten now cost just $80. The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes, so the first four men were unaffected. The first four would still eat for free. But what about the other six men – the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’  They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from every-body’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to eat their meal. So, the restaurant owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay. And so: The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings). 

a.. The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33% savings). 
b.. The seventh now paid $5 instead of $7 (28% savings). 
c.. The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings). 
d.. The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings). 
e.. The tenth (the richest) now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings). 

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to eat for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings. “I only got a dollar out of the $20,” declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,” but he got $10!” “Yeah, that’s right,” exclaimed the fifth man. “I only saved a dollar, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than me!” “That’s true!!” shouted the seventh man. “Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!” “Wait a minute,” yelled the first four men in unison. “We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!” The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up. The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for dinner, so the nine sat down and ate without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something very important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill! And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start eating overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

Ik neem aan dat dit nieuws volop in de nederlandse kranten stond maar ik vond het leuk dit toch even te melden op mijn blog.

Kinderen in Nederland zijn bofkonten. Volgens een onderzoek van het VN-kinderfonds Unicef zijn zij het gelukkigst van alle kinderen in de ontwikkelde wereld.
Unicef vergeleek de positie van kinderen in 21 ontwikkelde landen op basis van veertig factoren, onder meer armoede, gezondheid en veiligheid, onderwijs, relatie met familie en de mate waarin de kinderen zelf aangaven gelukkig te zijn met hun leven.
Samen met Nederland scoorden ook Zweden en Denemarken hoog. Groot-Brittannië staat onderaan de lijst. Een na laatste land zijn de Verenigde Staten. Volgens de studie bestaat er geen direct verband tussen materiële welvaart in een land, gemeten naar het bruto nationaal product, en de kwaliteit van leven van kinderen.

Zo zouden kinderen in Tsjechië gelukkiger zijn dan die in Frankrijk, dat welvarender is dan het voormalige oostblokland. Hoewel Nederland over alle categorieën genomen het hoogst scoort van alle 21 landen die lid zijn van de OECD, de organisatie voor Economische Samenwerking en Ontwikkeling, is het in ons land niet best gesteld met de materiële welvaart van kinderen.
Dat wordt in het onderzoek van Unicef gemeten aan de hand van het aantal kinderen dat leeft in gezinnen die moeten rondkomen van een inkomen dat lager is dan modaal.

Als moeder van twee hele blijde kinderen, wonende in een fantastische regio, met zon, zee, strand, bergen, “campagne” en noem maar op, kunnen wij dagelijk genieten van een heel blij leven. Wat onderwijs betreft is nog een debat te houden, vooral omdat wij zelf van de twee kinderen een goed voorbeeld hebben dat “als alles goed gaat is er geen probleem…”
(Dit is een onderwerp wat ik al meerdere malen naar voren heb gehaald en wil nu niet weer over Bart en school beginnen, maar Dorine gaat in September naar de middelbare school, wij hebben voor een privé-school gekozen, deze bied ook een lagere school opleiding, ik denk er sterk over om Bart vanaf september daar ook naar toe te sturen aangezien ze hem in de publieke school als “buiten de normen” vinden en “geen tijd” voor hem hebben… voor informatie; hij heeft een IQtest gedaan en is BOVEN de normen… volgens de schoolpsychologe heeft hij een “immature” probleem, welke jongen van zijn leeftijd heeft dat niet en is dat een reden om hem buiten te sluiten…?)

Ik ben in ieder geval trots op Nederland dat deze op de 1ste plaats in dit rapport staat, dat geeft mij een goed gevoel over mijn geboorteland en de neefjes en nichtje die ik daar heb !

EU OVERWEEGT BELASTING OP SMS, E-MAIL

Elk jaar duiken de berichten wel weer op, net zoals de berichten over Loch Ness. Gewoonlijk gaat het dan om de VS, maar dit keer is Europa de achtergrond van het bericht: komt er een belasting op e-mail?
Volgens verschillende bronnen zou de EU overwegen om een belasting te heffen op sms berichten en op e-mails. Dat geld zou dan moeten dienen om het budget van de EU wat te spijzen.
Het voorstel is afkomstig van een Frans afgevaardigde, ene Alain Lamassoure. Er is sprake van een belasting van 1,5 cent op elke sms en van 0,00001 cent per e-mail die u verstuurt. Waarbij het niet duidelijk is of de gebruiker zelf die belasting moet betalen, of het bedrijf waarlangs je de mail verstuurt, jouw provider dus. Allemaal erg vaag dus en het is echt wel de vraag of deze belasting er überhaupt komt.
Trouwens, je mag niet vergeten dat je sowieso al belasting betaalt op sms (via de telefoonrekening van jouw telecom provider, waarop BTW van toepassing is) evenals op e-mails via je abonnement bij jouw internetprovider: emails die je verzend tellen mee voor jouw bandbreedte en dat is een deel van je pakket, waarvoor je dus ook BTW betaalt.

The European Union is considering a tax on text and e-mail messages, as the 25-country bloc looks for new ways to fund itself. The idea is among several others being floated in committee as the parliament argues over a new budget. According to the propsal, a 1.5-cent tax on SMS messages, and a 0.00001-cent tax would be levied on each e-mail sent. It is not clear if users themselves or the companies providing the service would be responsible for the tax.
The proposal was brought to the table by French center-right lawmaker Alain Lamassoure. He called the tax “peanuts,” saying it could provide an “immense income” for the EU. In parts of Europe, the concept of a tax on text messaging has been already considered. Italy briefly toyed with the idea, but it was soundly rejected. A European Union working group is currently looking over the proposed legislation.

Zoals de meeste bekend bestaat binnen het Europese parlement een ingeburgerd gebruik als gevolg waarvan één maal per maand het volledige Europese parlement met alle medewerkers en een bijna complete kantoorinventaris voor enkele dagen verhuist van Brussel naar Straatsburg.
De enige reden hierachter is dat Frankrijk dit zo graag wilt. 99% van de rekening – op jaarbasis ongeveer 200 miljoen euro – wordt toch betaald door de andere aangesloten landen.
Thans heeft een aantal europarlementsleden van verschillende partijen en uit verschillende landen een actie op touw gezet om aan deze belachelijke geldverspilling een eind te maken. Zij hebben hiervoor één miljoen handtekeningen nodig zodat dit onderwerp op de agenda van de Europese commissie kan worden gezet.
